NOPCOTE C-104 Paper coating Lubricant
NOPCOTE C-104 is a liquid, 50% solids calcium stearate dispersion for use in starch, protein or latex coatings. It improves the application of coating and imparts a superior finish to coated paper. Among its outstanding features are its economy and case of use.

By lubricating the coating, NOPCOTE C-104 improves flow and levelling characteristics, making possible smooth, even application. It also plasticises the dry coating and improves its printabildy, gloss and smoothness.

Like all NOPCOTE calcium stearate dispersions, NOPCOTE C-104 has a small average particae size to provide mayimum dispersion stability. It also gives low residue levels on a 325 mesh screen.

NOPCOTE C-104 prevents dusting at the supercalenders and during slitting and printing operations, resulting in higher operating speeds

In certain grades of paper, superealendering can be omitted, since NOPCOTE C-104 gives a high finish with machine calenders alone.

APPLICATION
NOPCOTE C-104 is normally used at a level of 0.5 - 1.5 % on the weight of the dry solids in the coating. Being a mobile liquid, no predispersion is necessary. It may be mixed directly with the coating colour at any convenient point in the make-down of the colour. When starch is the adhesive, however, it should not be added until the starch has been cooked.

NOPCOTE C-104 dispersion is stable in the presence of alkalis and dilute acid solutions. It should not be subjected to strong acid solutions, since decomposition of the calcium stearate will result..

FDA STATUS NOPCO C-104 contains ingredients which comply with the following indirect food-contact sections of 21 CFR:
175.105 Adhesives
176.170 Components of paper and Paperboard in contact with Aqueous and Fatty Foods
176.180 Components of paper and Paperboard in contact with Dry food
PACKAGE, STORAGE AND HANDLING

NOPCOTE C-104 dispersion is shipped in 200 litre lined steel or plastic drums or 1000 litre plastic cage containers. The product can also be shipped in bulk road tankers. Storage of the bulk material should be in tanks which can be stirred. Freezing seriously damages the product. Protect against low temperatures in storage. Containers should be kept tightly closed when not in use to avoid evaporation losses.

In hot climates, the product should be stored in the shade and, preferably, inside a building.

Additional handling information is contained in a material safety data sheet which is available on request.
