NOPCOTE VD is an aqueous solution of a modified sodium polyacrylate. It is an additive for improving water retention, stability and flow properties of coating colours.

NOPCOTE VD is recommended as a thickener, stabiliser and protective colloid for coatings which contain natural and synthetic rubber latices and polyvinyl acetate. Unlike natural :thickeners, such as casein and CMC, NOPCOTE VD is inert to hydrolysis and bacterial action.

Compared some other synthetic thickeners, NOPCOTE VD is easier to handle. It pours readily and can be added directly to the latex or coating colour due to its good water solubility properties. The handling and metering difficulties with solid thickeners such as CMC we also avoided

NOPCOTE VD is a smooth, gel-free product with a viscosity which remains constant over long storage periods. The product also remains chemically stable during long periods of storage and is not degraded by temperatures below 1 00 degree C.

APPLICATION

NOPCOTE VD is an effective water retention aid for pigmented coatings. It is especially recommended for coatings with high proportions of latex binders. Small quantities of NOPCOTE VD significantly retards vehicle penetration of pigmented coatings, preventing coating solids increases in the coating application process which can result in undesirable rheological properties.

Improved stability of coating viscosities results in more desirable flow properties. Scratches, streaks and other coating defects are thereby reduced, and the leveling of the coating may be improved.

NOPCOTE VD is compatible with all natural and synthetic binders. It contributes to forming a strong and abrasion - resistant film with the binder.

Suggested application rate of NOPCOTE VD in an average pigmented coating is 0.05 to 0.50% of dry NOPCOTE VD, based on coating solids. In a typical 60% solids coating, the addition rate of NOPCOTE VD, as received, would be 0.3 to 3 kg per tonne of coating.

NOPCOTE VD is usually added at the same ~c as the latex. However, it can be added at the pigment dispersing stage without any adverse effect on its performance.
